Innis & Gunn Beer Kitchen, Glasgow.

Finalist – Northern Design Awards 2017_Restaurant & Bar <£250K – £750K

The Beer Kitchen, Glasgow, is the fourth bar and restaurant by Edinburgh based craft brewer Innis & Gunn. Inhabiting a Grade ‘B’ listed building with characterful brick façade on the historic Ashton Lane, it is arranged over three levels, providing a variety of drinking, eating and lounge accommodation over 840m2. A warm and tactile interior has been created within existing exposed-brick walls and cast iron columns, with the introduction of birch plywood-clad booths, leather upholstery, and oak and zinc surfaces. The focus of the ground floor bar is the on-site micro-brewery where exclusive signature beers are crafted by the resident master brewer.

Harry’s Bar & Grill

Home to Harry’s Bar since the late 1980s, this dated hole-in-the-wall basement bar has been completely stripped back and reconfigured to reveal original stone and brickwork, increase ceiling heights and improve visual connections with the outside by opening up the front courtyard and installing glass doors to the rear beer garden.

Internally, the exposed stone and brick add character and warmth, and the new materials of polished concrete, copper, oak, button-backed leather and dark grey wall panelling have a finely judged balance of rustic and luxury, making the bar a relaxing way to enjoy a drink or the delicious food cooked over the Josper grill!

The Beer Kitchen, St. Andrews

Continuing our collaboration with craft brewers Innis & Gunn, Beer Kitchen St Andrews is housed within a former Salvation Army meeting hall on North Street creating a vibrant yet cosy two storey bar and kitchen. The palette of materials employed on our previous Beer Kitchen projects has been carried through, however metalwork balustrades and reclaimed timber add new textures. The fabric of the original building has been exposed adding similar warm colours and rough textures. The bar and gantry have been positioned within a double height space which allows diners on the upper level to see the range of beers on offer as well as maintaining connection with the activity below.

The Beer Kitchen, Dundee

Following the great success of the Morgan McDonnell designed debut Beer Kitchen in Edinburgh for Innis and Gunn, the second Beer Kitchen has now opened in Dundee. We have used the same complementary palette of materials developed in Edinburgh in different ways at Dundee, bringing new life to this historic building on South Tay Street and unifying its varied series of spaces. Sitting pride of place in a display window at the heart of the space are the 500L beer tanks supplying fresh, unpasteurised lager to thirsty customers. The bar also features a glazed brewing room where visitors can try their hand at making their own specialised brews. A great new space where design and beer take centre stage!

The Beer Kitchen, Edinburgh

Finalist – Northern Design Awards 2016_Restaurant & Bar <£250K

The Beer Kitchen, the first bar by brewer Innis & Gunn, has opened on Edinburgh’s Lothian Road. Layers of previous alterations have been peeled back to expose the original cornicing, stone walls and fireplace.  These features are now complemented by new stained birch panelling, glazed brick tiles, natural leather, oak and distinctive geometric patterned wall tiling in the toilets. The bar incorporates an exposed steel and glass display beer cellar and retail cabinet, and showcases the first Tankbeer installation in Scotland, serving delicious fresh beer straight from the tap! The Beer Kitchen continues the ongoing renaissance of Lothian Road as a cool leisure destination.

Winner – RIAS Award 2014

Winner – Scottish Property Awards 2014

Shortlisted for Scottish Design Award 2014

The Devil’s Advocate pub is located just off Edinburgh’s High Street. The refurbished ground floor space of the former boiler room for The Evening News Print rooms and offices is the coolest bar in the Old Town. Stealthily stored away down Advocate’s Close, the bar uses reclaimed timbers from our main project on Advocate’s Close, industrial lighting and exposed brick to complete the stripped back, urban look. With 200+ whiskies and great food on offer it’s worth a visit, anytime of day.
