the main structure of loadbearing walls and timber floors was retained, with mezzanine and gallery floors inserted to increase the accommodation. the new floors and structures were located to the interior of the plan to avoid unsightly subdivision of the large existing windows, which provide great natural light within the apartments. on the ground floor, private gardens were provided, accessible by new glazed double doors set in the existing window openings, enlarged to fit.
