the residential units are positioned peripherally within the two outermost bays allowing the middle bay to be retained as a coherent space which emphasises the single volume characteristic of this type of industrial building. 

this space holds the open lattice circulation elements which themselves echo the suspended access walkways still visible in the existing workshops.  materials such as stainless steel, cor-ten, glass and timber are used to form contemporary projections and indentations which contrast and enliven the existing fabric whilst referencing the industrial past of the buildings and the site.
