Advocate’s Close wins “the overall, highly esteemed, Project of the Year which is awarded to the entry judged to have scored the highest against a strict set of criteria“ (as described on the RICS website) as well as the Regeneration Award, which honours exceptional improvements to urban, rural or coastal areas which have contributed to the viability of the area. Our development was also highly commended in both the Commercial and Tourism and Leisure categories at the RICS Scotland Awards 2015 Ceremony at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh.

Chairman of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Scotland judging panel, Colin Smith, said: “Retaining and regenerating all of the existing buildings and restoring historical building forms resulted in a development which fits well within its impressive surroundings, whilst the contemporary additions are sensitive to the historical elements.“

The Doolan Judges Visit to Advocate’s Close

Posted on November 11, 2014 by admin

A lovely photo of the Doolan Judges, featuring the late, great Andy MacMillan, following their visit to Advocate’s Close back in August.

It has been almost a week since Morgan McDonnell claimed the Doolan Prize and the RIAS Gold Medal for the Advocate’s Close project in what has been an unprecedented success for the practice. We learned on the evening that the judges’ decision was unanimous – hugely rewarding to know given the calibre of the people involved.

Whilst saddened by the passing of Professor MacMillan, we are immensely proud to know that our work was appraised and appreciated by one of the greats of post-war British architecture, and honoured to have received the RIAS Andrew Doolan Award 2014.
