41-42 St Andrew Square Submitted For Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent

Posted on August 21, 2015 by admin

Planning and Listed Building consent applications for the proposed refurbishment of the Category A listed building at 41 – 42 St Andrew Square have been submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council.

The proposals, for Chris Stewart Group, will see the former Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters transformed into 54 serviced apartments on the upper floors. The creation of new commercial uses at ground level will reinvigorate street level activity, enhance the pedestrian experience, enrich the streetscape and promote pedestrian movement between the square and the emerging St James Quarter beyond.

Contemporary bronze clad pavilions have been designed to sit subtly within, and enhance the existing roofscape. Internally, we plan to remove an unsympathetic 1970s mezzanine floor within the original banking hall and reinstate the original volume. This will form the centrepiece of the development proposals which envisage a grand new restaurant occupying the space accessed via the formal entrance portico and vestibule on St Andrew Square.

Work has completed on the refurbishment of a rundown venue on Edinburgh’s Lothian Road into The Beer Kitchen, the first bar by Innis & Gunn.  Layers of alterations have been peeled back to expose original features, which are now complemented by a natural material palette. A steel and glass display cellar showcases Scotland’s first tank beer offering which will supply fresh unpasteurised beer direct to the pumps. Delicious!

Refurbishment of Harry’s Bar Near Completion

Posted on July 6, 2015 by admin

Work is progressing well on our refurbishment of Harry’s Bar in Edinburgh’s West End for Shilling Group, with a planned re-opening later this month. The dated ‘whole in the wall’ basement bar is being completely stripped back internally to increase ceiling heights, and reveal original brick and stone walls. The layout has been reorganised to make better use of the space, whilst visual connections with the outside are enhanced by the removal of a porch at the front and by forming new glass doors out to the re-landscaped beer garden to the rear. We look forward to having drinks in the sun!

Morgan McDonnell Architect Races In the DCC Stages

Posted on May 1, 2015 by admin

Morgan McDonnell Architect Gavin Lloyd took part in this year’s DCC Stages .

Gavin wheeled out his rally car, complete with Morgan McDonnell logos, on Saturday 25th of April 2015 to take part in the Dunfermline Car Club stages at the Royal Highland Showground at Ingliston, near Edinburgh. This year, there was a total of 8 special stages offering about 46 miles of 100% sealed surface roads. With a wet start to the event, Gavin was initially up to 17th overall. However as the track dried out, Gavin lost out to more powerful cars, but eventually finished a terrific 20th overall, 3rd in class and took the award for best improvement on seeding.

Well done Gavin and we hope you enjoyed a good day of motor sport!
