Company Director Anthony McDonnell was interviewed by a Japanese TV film crew who were in Edinburgh this week filming interesting building conversions for their show “Renovating the World” and who had scouted our recently completed former church conversion at Blackfriar’s Street for inclusion in their travelogue. The producer and crew seemed intrigued by the innovative use of space and by the notion of transforming a previously sacred building into residential accommodation which, it seems, is not so common in Japan. Keep your eyes peeled for it’s release!

At Kinnear Road in Edinburgh, the first townhouse (plot 04) is due to be completed early February having been pre-sold with the purchasers eager to move in.
The remaining units are due to complete by May 2016.

MacKenzie House, the former Edinburgh Academy boarding house, is being carefully restored with an old resident still in attendance.
Works at the new buildings are progressing with the stonework completed and the new glazing at the garden elevations affording spectacular views towards the City and beyond about to be installed.
The Beer Kitchen by Innis & Gunn Launches

Work has completed on the refurbishment of a rundown venue on Edinburgh’s Lothian Road into The Beer Kitchen, the first bar by Innis & Gunn. Layers of alterations have been peeled back to expose original features, which are now complemented by a natural material palette. A steel and glass display cellar showcases Scotland’s first tank beer offering which will supply fresh unpasteurised beer direct to the pumps. Delicious!
Refurbishment of Harry’s Bar Near Completion

Work is progressing well on our refurbishment of Harry’s Bar in Edinburgh’s West End for Shilling Group, with a planned re-opening later this month. The dated ‘whole in the wall’ basement bar is being completely stripped back internally to increase ceiling heights, and reveal original brick and stone walls. The layout has been reorganised to make better use of the space, whilst visual connections with the outside are enhanced by the removal of a porch at the front and by forming new glass doors out to the re-landscaped beer garden to the rear. We look forward to having drinks in the sun!
First Flats Completed At 35-37 Queen Street

The first 8 flats have been completed at our refurbishment project at 35-37 Queen Street, Edinburgh. The finished flats, located on the ground floor and the upper levels, form the first phase of the project which will ultimately see the creation of 10 dwellings across 5 levels. The uppermost flats have had new mezzanine levels introduced within the former roof space to maximise useable space and provide the principle living areas with a double height volume.
Externally, an unsympathetic 20th century extension has been removed to create additional outdoor amenity. The lower level flats are due for completion at the end of May 2014.
Works Well Underway At Hamilton Place

Works have started in earnest on our project at 34 Hamilton Place. The development will see the conversion, restoration and extension of the B listed buildings and later extensions to form 6 new high quality apartments and a commercial space at street level including the replacement of the part-hipped roof, dormer and modern link building with a new full-height infill and symmetrical rooftop extension. 2 of the apartments will have direct access to either the landscaped garden area to the rear and a newly formed roof terrace above the new rooftop extension.
